Ah yes, a perfect example of why I'm ashamed to be an anime fan. I find anime awesome. No educational value, really, but it's rather creative and has cool stuff, however, I cannot stand the fanbase of today. A vast majority of anime fans are way too overprotective, even calling people who don't like anime racist for not liking it. Ugh... it makes me feel so ashamed...

I fail to see how one's interests are in any way indicative of personal maturity. That's just a fallacy propagated by sheeple who are really too complacent to think for themselves.

There are some seinen titles which are either emotionally engaging or thought provoking (or both) such as Neon Genesis Evangelion and Elfen Lied, but I know that's not what the article was talking about.

I'm just a little annoyed that I wouldn't realistically be able to mention I still play Pokémon and watch certain cartoons without a few incredulous stares.

I guess it's a watered down, misinterpreted, surface-orientated version of maturity just like society's ideal of happiness is having a six or seven figure salary and being able to buy everything.

...That said, there are some really dumb and obnoxious people out there who really are missing the point.

On both sides.
